(01/21/2011)The renowned chef Gaston Acurio revealed that 15 brands of Peruvian restaurants are opening branches both abroad and in Peru. This comes at a moment were Peruvian cuisine is becoming well known around the world.

"Some of these companies need talent, creativity and product, but many lack the capital to expand, so they need foreign investment to expand," explained Acurio.
He also assured that "some of them are still in the process of formalization and reinventing itself for foreign investors to bet on its business formats, because what predominates in a poor country like ours, is the franchise system."
He also emphasized that from the 100 percent of national brands that came to the world via franchising in 2010, 90 percent corresponded to food brands. He added that his company, Inversiones La Macha, will open eight restaurants under the brands Tanta and La Mar in Barcelona, London, New York and Florida.
Another of his projects is to open a boutique hotel in the Moreyra House, located in Lima's San Isidro district, which aims to present Lima as the gastronomic capital of Latin America. Acurio also revealed that he will open his first chinese restaurant, also known as “Chifas” in Peru, and he will name it Madan Tusan.
Another project he has for the future is the “Combi salchipapero project” which consists on transforming old micro buses known as “combis” into food carts.
