(03/07/2011)Peruvian citrus exports will reach $68.5 million in 2011, a 20.9 percent increase over 2010, according to a report by Maximixe, a Peruvian market research and consulting company.

In 2010, fresh citrus exports totaled $56.9 million, which represented a 31.9 percent rise from the previous year.
This progress is mainly due to higher amounts of tangerine exports (which grew 49.5 percent) and oranges (75.6 percent). Other well-performing products include limes (17.2 percent) and lemon (13.9 percent).
In 2010, tangerine exports accounted for 61.9 percent of total exports, totaling $35.2 million. Main buyers included the United Kingdom (34.6 percent of share), the United States (21.1 percent), Canada (17.3 percent), Netherlands (13.3 percent) and Ireland (3.4 percent). The increase came even as average export price of tangerine fell by 5.9 percent, from $1.02 per kilogram in 2009 to $0.96 in 2010.
According to Maximixe, the number of export destinations for citrus fruit increased to 23 in 2010.
