(11/03/2011)Peru’s Jorge Chavez International Airport was voted South America’s Leading Airport for third year in a row at the 2011 World Travel Awards, Lima Airport Partners (LAP) reported.

In addition, Jorge Chavez International Airport beat out Brazil’s Juscelino Kubitschek, Chile’s Comodoro Arturo Merino Benítez and Argentina’s Ministro Pistarini de Ezeiza in being named the region’s best airport.
LAP general manager, Juan Jose Salmon, said these awards - which had a record 213,000 votes in over 160 countries, this year - recognize excellence in all services related to the tourism and travel industry.
"The title of South America’s Leading Airport represents the recognition of ten years of work and effort to transform Jorge Chavez into a safe, efficient and modern airport, that offers quality service to passengers," Salmon said.
The annual awards are voted on by travel agents and by executives working within travel and tourism.
Winners are named across a number of regions, with the world's best in each category due to be announced at a gala dinner in Qatar later this year.
