(06/25/2010)The San Juan party, one of the most important of the Peruvian departments of Loreto, Ucayali and San Martin, started today including sport contests and gastronomic festivals, among other events.

Iquitos, the capital of the northeastern Loreto region, hosted a gastronomic contest to show the nutritional values of typical dishes of the region.
As both the San Juan party and the 32nd Tourist Week of Iquitos took place today, the Regional government set up activities which were attended by around 3,000 people.
In Ucayali region, families traveled along the rivers and lakes to pay tribute to San Juan Bautista (Saint John the Baptist).
While in San Martin region, many people gathered in Moyobamba since very early this morning, dancing at the sound of the “pandillas,” a typical musical instrument of the region.
