Peru will launch security network for tourism

(07/21/2010)Peru's Ministry of Tourism, Mincetur, will launch this year the Tourism Security Assistance Network, which wil be intended to provide protection for tourists, said Carlos Canales, President of the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur).

He said to TNews that this system will require an investment of US $5 million per destination, and explained that private sector will participate, too.

The first destination to have this security system will be Lima, and then Cusco, Arequipa, Trujillo, Chiclayo, among others.

“Regional governments will have to invest, too. The real issue is that regions spend less than 0.5% of their budgets in tourism promotion,” said Canales.
