(09/10/2010)The Peruvian Congress unanimously approved a one-article law that declares “of public necessity and a national interest” the construction of the road Machu Picchu-Santa Teresa-Santa Maria, as well as the completion of the required technical studies.

This road would become an alternative to the rail service, that is currently the only access from Cusco city to the Inca citadel, reports El Comercio.
It also would prevent future problematic situations if the railway gets damaged again by any natural disaster, like last January, when the floods destroyed the railway and let thousands of tourists stranded in Machu Picchu town.
