Peruvian Foreign Minister, José Antonio García Belaunde, said he is confident about deepening trade integration between Peru and Brazil, reported Andina.
García Belaunde said this will be possible with the elimination of non-tariff barriers that still hinder free trade between both countries.
"(Integration) has made some progress, but unfortunately it is not consolidated yet,” said the minister.
This is an issue to be solved between Peru and Brazil, said García Belaunde. Non-tariff barriers like phytosanitary requirements, permits or quotas are pending, he said.
García Belaunde pointed out that these kinds of barriers are included in the free movement restriction of certain goods or in the application of phytosanitary requirements for cement.
In statements to Canal N, the minister indicated that the integration progress made some progress thanks to Presidents Inacio Lula da Silva and Alan García, who “took action on the matter.”
One of the “actions” is the construction of the Inter Oceanic Highway that will finally connect to huge markets on the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans.
The minister highlighted the good relations existing between both countries.
