School Children of Yanama

The 6 of February the first books’ delivery have been fulfilled to the comuneros of the Yanama’s village. This first delivery is the beginning of a dream to give and to equip 3 new libraries in the schools of Yanama, Totora and La Playa.

These villages, by their distance receive little aid from the central and local government. Libraries do not exist in the schools and in most of the cases the children from 5 to 14 years old must read and to be educated from the same book that often is bought by the teacher himself.

Our idea is to contribute with books for the different ages, the different scholastic matters and different degrees of studies. We want to call this project, “Blibliotecas Hans Christian Andersen”, in memory of the famous Danish fairytales author.

Our next book’s delivery for the school of Yanama is programmed for April the 20th; with this second delivery we have confidence that the library will be almost complete for the education of the children of Yanama. The school of Yanama is a primary school that goes from 1th degree to 6th degree of primary.

How is it possible to help this project?

If it is your wish to support this project, we request to communicate with Ronald Rengifo to the following mail: ronald@machetetours.com. He, as a director of the agency, will coordinate with the guides the delivery of books to the school’s teacher and the representative of the community where the donation is given.

Is it enough with books?

We know that when we give the books we are helping the improvement of children’s education, which are the future of Peru.

The books will remain in the teacher’s classroom, this because in most of the schools of these areas there is just one single classroom.

For us, to give them the books means to help, in medium and long term, the yearning of the children to continue studying, to being able to dream with one career, to give them the dreams and aspirations, to have a better future with education and justice.

What books can be donated?

We need books that contain many photos that have texts easy to read, with an easy Spanish to understand:

  • Synonymous and antonymous and dictionaries.
  • Books with an easy English.
  • Fairytale books.
  • Books in Quechua Language (this can be bought in Cusco).
  • Encyclopedic volumes like universal history, human body, natural sciences, etc.
  • Books of geography, especially of local geography.
  • Animal’s books of the world, etc.

How the libraries for future generations in the moved away schools of Peru can be maintained?

Yanama classroom

We know that the books must have a place to be kept, the idea is to have a classroom to be able to work as a library, but that classroom, right now, does not exist.

Also we know that we’ll be helpful to have a place open to the children, where they can come to develop their tasks, to continue motivating themselves with the reading and why not, to come to read with its parents.

At this moment a classroom does not exist. To build this Library classroom we thought it would be possible with the participation of the students’ families’ parents; for this we need some materials that cannot be obtained in the area but it is possible to be taken from Cusco:

  • Calamines for the ceiling. (This we prefer in natural grass from the area but the existing school made by the government has aluminum calamines).
  • Nails.
  • Tables and chairs for the students.
  • Cement for the floor.
  • Wooden stand for the books.

These are the things that both them and us need to be able to built the classroom for the library. If it is your desire to collaborate for this project, we accept your donation in the agency Machete Tours. The donation can be in money or in materials.

We have already talked with the people of Yanama and we agree to build this classroom with an extension of 6 meters long and 4 meters wide when we have all material ready.

The material for the walls will be in adobe and the ceiling will be in wood; both materials can be found over there.

The “ Library Hans Christian Andersen” is the beginning to give opportunity to the children of the moved away towns of Peru to have the opportunity of one better education and to be able to dream and this will be possible with our support, your support and the support of students’ parents of each community.

Sincerely:
