Volunteering program to Amarakaeri Lodge – Nuevo Eden – Manu Park – Puerto Maldonado – Peru.
The Amarakaeri Lodge is located at day and half journey by bus and boat from Cusco, the lodge is at the Cultural zone of Manu Park and part of Nuevo Eden Community. The closes hospital is at Itahuania town at 3 hours walking or 40 minutes by boat. There is a road connecting to Itahuania used only in the dry season from April to November and from Itahuania there is connection to Cusco all year round with some delays in the rainy season. The lodge have capacity for 24 passengers and is fully equipped with toilets, showers, kitchen, bungalows, water system and drainage system, trails around the lodge and trails to our 2 main camps, Black River at 7 Km and the White River at 13 Km.
Nuevo Eden is an agricultural community with 25 families and has a primary school with 01 teacher and 19 Childs with variable age from 4 to 15 years old. The teacher teaches everyday in one classroom to all Childs in the different levels. The school has all basic necessary and is located in the middle of the community.
The volunteer job consist in coming from Cusco to stay living in Amarakaeri Lodge from where daily the volunteer can assist to help the community school teaching basic English, basis mathematics, plantation in the school garden, etc. The activities are coordinate with the teacher schedule and in the teaching hours which is from 8:00 to 12:00 from Monday to Friday. This job can be organized daily or few days a week. As optional activity the volunteers can work at the lodge plantation, the lodge maintenance, the community trails maintenance, the lodge trails maintenance, etc.
Volunteers have to work at the lodge maintenance every Saturday and this can be changed if already have a maintenance day during the week. Sundays are free and Amarakaeri Lodge can organize in 2 weekends during a period of 4 weeks visits to close by communities.
Amarakaeri Lodge will provide to volunteers:
- Land transportation from Cusco to the Lodge, this is 2 days transportation with overnight in a local village hostel. With local guide.
- Land transportation from the Lodge back to Cusco, this is also 2 days transportation with an overnight in a local village hostel. With local guide.
- River local transportation to Amarakaeri Lodge.
- River local transportation from Amarakaeri Lodge back to Itahuania village in the way back to Cusco when finishing job.
- 3 meals per day. Meals are based on regular Peruvian alimentation, based in rice, potatoes, maize, fish, red meat, white meat, spaghetti, lot of green banana and manioc, local seasonal fruits.
- A person in charge of daily activities.
- A person in charge of daily food preparation. Volunteers are most welcome to help.
- Tools to work on the fields.
- Rubber boots.
- A bed in one of the bungalow rooms with sheets, mosquito net, pillow and comfortable mattresses.
About the volunteer job conditions.
- The volunteer job has to be minimum 4 weeks.
- Volunteers have to be older than 18 years old.
- Basic Spanish knowledge.
- Visa in Peru has to be 2 weeks more after finish volunteer job.
- Volunteer need to have finished school education.
Prices:
- 4 weeks cost US$ 450.00 per person.
- Extension week: US$ 100.00 per person.
What do not include:
- Travel insurance.
- Meals during transportation in to the Lodge and back to Cusco. This is a total of 4 breakfasts, 4 lunches and 4 dinners as each way is 2 days.
- Medical insurance.
- Hotel in Cusco.
- Water purification tablets. Volunteers will be provided boiled water.
